The Caribbean is a well-known and thriving tourism hotbed due to its tropical climate, white sandy beaches and azure blue waters. Some of the most popular. Some of the most popular islands to visit among tourists include Barbados, St Lucia, Dominica and Antigua. These islands are all situated on the east side of the region on the outskirts of the Caribbean Sea.
No matter what type of geographic landscape you want to experience, you can find it and more in the Caribbean. If you can’t make up your mind where you’d most like your travels to take you next, consider the Caribbean. Perhaps best of all is the fact that you can enjoy these beaches year round, as the Caribbean has no cold and snowy seasons. Plenty of places in the world offer beautiful scenery, but there aren’t many that offer the sheer geographic diversity you’ll find in the Caribbean.
The Caribbean is made up of over 700 islands and 30 territories that are situated within or near the Caribbean Sea, located east of Central America. Although the colonial period is more than a whole generation in the past now, the Caribbean islands I visited were all still very much dominated by the relics and remnants of their colonial past. Just as the Titah Frock sculptures are made up of scraps from wealthy people’s clothes, so the Caribbean islands share a common history of being torn apart over many years by colonial powers from all over Europe. A gift that the Caribbean Islands did give to the world though that is still very much in evidence today is the barbecue – originating from the Taino word barbacoa (meaning grilling on a raised wooden grate).
I did find a few people who would – when prompted – talk with nostalgia about the signature Caribbean pepper pot soup. Swimming is an excellent way to pass the time in the Caribbean, but it isn’t the only way to explore the crystal-blue waters surrounding the islands. But it isn’t the only incredible activity you can enjoy in the water when you travel to the Caribbean.
